WHEN EMOTION ENDAGERS US
Our world is getting increasingly stressful, especially in regard to communication. There is so much misinformation published, made far more powerful because of the Internet. People reject others out of hand because of some perceived foible or faux pas without verification or moderation. Large numbers of people no longer speak to each other and when they do, hear only what they want to. Comprehensive thinking and listening skills are no longer taught routinely in our schools, making it difficult to navigate modern life. In this environment, emotions often run high and quickly escalate and can become dangerous for our health.
I have been writing about inflammatory rhetoric and how it endangers our health since 2015 when I published the article Deflame, illustrating ways to reduce political anxiety using techniques to reduce inflammation.
But there are also other times when we plague ourselves with stress like when we worry about our or a loved ones health or about a fight with a friend or whether or not someone cares about us. Chronic depression and pain are issues many of us have to deal with as we age. And fear is probably the most potent and traumatic adversary that we ever encounter.
Strong emotion is often taking center stage. It is helpful to learn about how to manage these difficult and painful situations. The second article on Emotion Stimulated by Thought is especially provocative as well as being potentially life changing.
