REDUCING THE SYMPTOMS OF PARKINSON'S DISEASE
Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a degenerative disorder of the nervous system which primarily affects the motor system. Symptoms include tremor, rigidity, slowness and frequent falls. One of the difficult side effects is depression.
In my field of balance and fall prevention, I have developed a number of movement approaches that assist with the process of aging by using fitness combined with common sense to build a multifaceted strategy that is safe, easy and effective. I've applied these techniques to form an exercise program for those with Parkinson's.

One student with Parkinson's showed remarkable progress after regular Building Better Balance class attendance over a 4-month period. Head movement diminished significantly and his balance improved so much that he no longer had falls and no longer needed the use of a walker. Success can be attributed to the emphasis throughout this program on using eye focus to control balance (and head motion).
The first DVD of the Building Better Balance series includes a special feature on how to develop the focus that is so helpful for those suffering from Parkinson's. Use of eye focus can dramatically reduce head tremors and in turn significantly reduce or even eliminate falls.
